Climograph
Aim of the method/technique | Identify climatic zones across weather stations. Present the interannual trends of precipitations and temperatures. |
Scale – spatial and temporal | Local or regional level; long term data (maximum possible) |
Brief description | Climographs are constructed per each meteorological station, representing the total precipitation during the month and the monthly average temperature (daily average temperature per month) for the time interval considered, in order to represent correctly the existence or not of dry season (Gaussen and Bagnouls 1953) in each zone. Climographs show also the correlations of the precipitation and temperature with the altitudinal gradient or other characteristics for each study area. The interannual trends of precipitation and temperature, time-graph, are elaborated describing the long-term trend. |
Data requirements | Long term data of precipitation and minimum and maximum and mean temperature. |
Main applications in grazing land regions | Characterize SESs. To be used as explanatory variables to assess the relationship between SES components. |
